Bride Incorporates Her 92-Year-Old Uncle As The ‘Something Blue’ In Her Wedding

Weddings are steeped in tradition, but this bride decided to take a different route in interpreting the “something blue” aspect of her wedding. Allison Ferrell had her 92-year-old uncle serve as her “something blue” in her ceremony, and it’s pretty much the sweetest thing ever.

Her story went viral after a photo of the bride posing with her uncle was posted to the Love What Matters Facebook page. According to the post’s caption, being incorporated into the wedding day was a dream come true for the uncle and WWII vet.

“What’s your goal?” One of the nurses asked him,” she wrote. “To be her “Something Blue” on her wedding day,” my uncle replied from his hospital bed. My 92 year old uncle was a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during WWII and served in combat on Naha in Okinawa. After a bout with pneumonia and an extended stay in rehabilitation, he was able to meet his goal on May 13th, 2017, my wedding day.”

So, on her wedding day, her uncle was escorted down the church aisle wearing his dress blues Marine uniform. As you can imagine, it was a very sweet moment for the bride and her family to share.

“There wasn’t a dry eye in the church when he was escorted down the aisle in his dress blues,” she wrote. “It was such an honor to have him serve as my “Something Blue” on my wedding day and a memory that will last a lifetime.”

The decision for the couple to skip out on the typical blue garter aspect of the wedding tradition was an easy one.

“We both come from families that have a lot of active service members and his grandfather fought in the war, so it was important to us to include Uncle Bill,” she told People magazine.

There may not have been a dry eye in the church that day, but it seems to be equally as hard for people online to keep it together after hearing this story, too. Facebook comments including hearts and crying emojis came rolling in because it’s hard not to shed tears of joy when learning about this very touching moment.
