Burger King now has a $1 crispy taco—and people have strong feelings about it
For a fast-food joint known for the Whopper, Burger King has made an unexpected addition to their menu — a crispy taco for a buck. But hey, if IHOP, the International House of Pancakes, can go and temporarily change their name to IHOB and brand themselves as the International House of Burgers, anything is possible.
The tacos are now available at Burger King locations nationwide for just $1. But despite the low price, there’s been some backlash from true-blue burger fans.
Burger King believes a Whopper and a taco can coexist peacefully, but fast-foodies seem to think otherwise. When Burger King took to social media to announce their latest menu item on Twitter, they were met with confusion and even disdain from fans.
Burger King wrote the news in a tweet simply stating, “we now have a $1 taco. yep, a taco”:
we now have a $1 taco. yep, a taco. we also made a bot @BKTacoBot that will reply back to you when you tweet #BKTaco.

Fans responded to the tweet voicing strong opinions on the matter.
One Twitter user, @twylagirl, was confused why Burger King would try to upstage the true star of their menu asking, “Why? Your burgers are unbeatable”:

Those who weren’t totally against the idea of tacos at Burger King seemed to have been met with disappointment upon ordering. Twitter user @RobertM36486232 pointed out that the tacos looked different from those advertised:
The tacos are a joke I ordered them for my kids they’re nothing what the commercial shows them very disappointed wish there was a way of getting a refund on my six tacos I paid for them should have just stuck the Taco Bell

In fact, some thought the tacos were hardly worthy of the name. Twitter user @revknuckleface included photographic evidence to support the claim that “a taco it is not”:
I’m not sure what @BurgerKing thinks this is, but a taco it is not… #BKTaco pic.twitter.com/LJ24guZhlO

Burger King says these tacos were tested and met with success before this recent nationwide launch.
“We’ve seen success with tacos in our west coast restaurants and knew it was time to bring this west coast crowd-pleaser nationwide,” Burger King Corporation’s Chris Finazzo said in a statement. “The Crispy Taco adds variety to our snacking items and truly hits the spot.”
This isn’t the first time tacos have been on the menu at Burger King. An online review of their previous tacos confirms they were available in 2010, and that they went for two for $1.49. In fact, some fans have suggested that this recent rollout is just an attempt to bring back an old favorite:
Twitter user @giovanni2768 was happy to see them come back:
Thank you so very much for bringing these back! I became saddened once they disappeared years ago! 😂

But another Twitter user, @jptrhndr, who remembered the original tacos, was quick to notice there’s something different about the latest menu item:
Nah. Whatever they do to the shell ruins it. Instead of a traditional hardshell it's some dry hard thing. Instead of repurposed beef from burgers, it's some pasty filler. Instead of shredded lettuce, it was Whopper lettuce. Only thing same was cheese and sauce.

The tacos will only be around for a limited time, so if you’re interested in weighing in on the debate, you’ll want to give them a try sooner rather than later.
The reviews are mixed so far, but what do you think? Can you support the idea of tacos at Burger King?
