Burger King Rolls Out A Whopper In A Doughnut Bun For Hanukkah

Burger King

Burger King is helping customers in Israel celebrate Hanukkah in a very interesting way this year.

In a move that is simultaneously Homer Simpson’s dream come true and a dietician’s nightmare, the fast food chain will be offering doughnut burgers in honor of Hanukkah.

The jelly-filled doughnut that is traditionally eaten during Hanukkah is called the sufganiyah. Hence, the burger is called “SufganiKing” to pay homage to Hanukkah.

This odd pairing will be a normal Whopper burger with doughnuts in place of buns and ketchup in lieu of jelly (because the addition of jelly, apparently, would be taking it too far).

If this sounds like something you’d try, you’ll have to travel to Israel to try it. Burger King is only rolling out the SufganiKing in its Israeli restaurants this year.

“This matching of two popular Israeli food items was inevitable for us,” Israeli Burger King CEO Steve ben Shimol told YNetNews. “We’re proud to be able to end 2016 on a creative, festive note.”

As Jews celebrating Hanukkah look to eat oily foods, we’ll see if they flock to BK for the doughnut burger. While YNetNews reports that employees who’ve tried the burger say it’s delicious, we’re eager to hear what adventurous customers have to say.

So far, the reactions on social media have been mixed:

The SufganiKing will be sold throughout December for about $4 in U.S. dollars.
