Bush’s made a record-breaking 70-layer bean dip—and it weighs over 1,000 pounds

While I don’t consider myself a “foodie,” there are a few foods I could eat in large quantities and never tire of them. For example, I could happily sit at a Mexican restaurant drinking margaritas and eating chips and salsa or queso for hours.

And really, I thought the same went for any kind of dip — until I heard of Bush’s Beans’ latest accomplishment: a world-record-setting 70-layer bean dip that weighs a whopping 1,087 pounds! Even I couldn’t tackle that!

Bush's Beans

According to Bush’s Beans, their seven-layer bean dip recipe is one of the most searched-for snack recipes this time of year, thanks to the Super Bowl.

So, this year, they decided to go all out and make the biggest bean dip ever created, breaking the Guinness World Records title for largest layered dip, previously held by Seven Bucks Digital Studios (which is co-founded by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) of 540 pounds.

Bush's Beans

Aside from being obviously massive, this dip is impressively constructed, as it’s not simply one standard seven-layer dip repeated over and over to create the 70 layers. It is actually made up of 10 different seven-layer bean dip recipes, including Caprese, Mediterranean, Cuban, veggie, loaded baked potato and more.

Each layer is a different weight, with Cuban coming in the heaviest at 145 pounds, while barbecue is the smallest at 89 pounds.

A total of 19 people worked to assemble the dip, which took 227 hours to create.

If you’re concerned about the wastefulness of using more than 1,000 pounds of food just to break a record, don’t worry. The completed dip was donated to a local charitable organization so it could be enjoyed by a large number of people in need.

Bush's Beans

While making this gargantuan dip yourself is probably not going to happen, Bush’s Beans has a variety of dip recipes on its website, including some used in the 70-layer dip like barbecue bean dip and the one that inspired it all, Bush’s seven-layer dip.
