Carrie Underwood shared a photo showing how badly she was injured when she fell outside her house

In November 2017, country star Carrie Underwood suffered a fall outside her home, which resulted in a broken wrist and injuries to her face. Now Underwood has taken to Instagram to share the image of an x-ray of her wrist that shows the extent of the injury—and it looks really painful.

“Last check up on the old wrist this morning!!” she wrote on her post. “Thanks, Dr. Wurth and my PT angel, Renee, a.k.a. ‘Bulldog’ for fixing me up!!! 😉 I’m good to go!”

As you can see, there is a piece of hardware keeping her wrist attached to her hand. Ouch!

Underwood’s fans sounded off in the comments to show their support and express best wishes for the star’s full recovery.

“Wow! That’s a lot of metal! Best wishes for a complete recovery. Come to Hammond, La!!” read one comment.

“I read about your accident and I am so happy that you are okay and healing. God is good!” said another.

Here’s a Tweet from her after the surgery:

And fans, of course, sounded in with their support and encouragement:

She’s Kept Her Face Out Of The Public Eye

Underwood has yet to share a clear photo of her face since the accident, but in a note she penned to members of her fan club on Jan. 1, she wrote that the injuries to her face seemed serious. (Note: While numerous fans shared screenshots of the letter to fans in the days after it was released, many of the tweets have since been taken down.)

“In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike (Fisher, Underwood’s husband, pictured below with her last October before her fall) that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in.”

She also made sure to tell fans that she may look different the next time they see her:

“And when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different,” she writes in a multi-paragraph blog post to fans at her fan club page. “I’m hoping that, by then, the differences are minimal, but, again, I just don’t know how it’s all going to end up.”

And, ominously, Underwood also wrote that there’s part of the story that she hasn’t “been ready to talk about.”

“There is also another part of the story that I haven’t been ready to talk about, since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up,” she wrote. “It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life.”

While the musician has left fans guessing, she doesn’t seem to have let the unfortunate accident slow her down.

On Dec. 12, reality star Adrienne Gang of “Below Deck” spotted Underwood working out at a gym and tweeted a photo of herself alongside the star, who appeared healthy and happy:

Gang noted in her caption that she found Underwood “adorable and gracious,” noting that she didn’t notice anything remarkable on Underwood’s face and that she had no idea the singer had taken a fall.

Some Fans Wonder What To Make Of All This

While some have questioned what Underwood’s seemingly unaffected appearance in this photo means, it’s possible her facial injury was on the left side of her face. As one doctor told Health, she could have 40-50 stitches in a relatively small area if it’s one that’s prone to scarring and where the skin is very sensitive, like her eyelid.

All the photos that Underwood’s shared since her accident have been with a partially covered face, so it’s hard to say where her face was injured.

We’re wishing Underwood all the best in her recovery and nothing but good things to come in 2018.
