Carrie Underwood announces baby’s gender at CMAs
Carrie Underwood is expecting baby number two, but she’s been keeping the baby’s gender a secret up until now. The beloved country singer revealed the news in the most epic way possible — again.
You see, she and Brad Paisley co-hosted the Country Music Association Awards, for the 11th year in a row, on Nov. 14 in Nashville. With this many hosting gigs under their belts, they’ve had some memorable moments on the CMAs stage — including the time Underwood was pregnant with her first baby and Paisley “accidentally” broke the news of the baby’s gender in 2014.
That year, Paisley let everyone tuned in to the CMAs know that Underwood was expecting a boy. So, considering Underwood is pregnant for a second time, it seemed appropriate to keep with the tradition and announce the baby’s gender at the 2018 awards show.
And that’s exactly what she did — with some prompting from her co-host, of course.
See the hilarious clip of Paisley trying to coax an announcement out of Underwood in this video from the Access YouTube channel:
After throwing out classic country music names like “Johnny or June?” “Waylon or Willie?” Underwood finally admitted, “It’s a Willie!”
So, there you have it, folks. It’s going to be another boy for Underwood and husband Mike Fisher! He’ll be joining his 3-year-old brother, Isaiah.
The singer first announced she was pregnant back in August. She shared the news of her pregnancy and her upcoming album in an Instagram video:
“Mike and Isaiah and I are absolutely over the moon and excited to be adding another little fish to our pond,” she said. “This has just been a dream come true with album and baby news.”

While Underwood seems absolutely thrilled to be expecting another son, she’s been open about the fact that becoming pregnant for a second time wasn’t as easy as she’d hoped, detailing how she suffered three miscarriages along the way.
She told CBS that 2017 wasn’t the year she’d “imagined” for herself.
“I’d kind of planned that 2017 was, you know, going to be the year that I work on new music, and I have a baby,” she said in the emotional interview.”We got pregnant early 2017, and didn’t work out,” she continued. “[G]ot pregnant again in the spring, and it didn’t work out … Got pregnant again, early 2018. Didn’t work out.”
After all of the ups and the downs, Underwood was finally able to announce the gender of her baby on the stage at the CMAs, and we can only imagine how incredible that felt for the mom-to-be!
Congratulations to the soon-to-be family of four!
