A lot of celebrities are natural public speakers and are used to performing in front of a crowd. So it’s no wonder that they’d be great at something like officiating a wedding.
As it turns out, a number of famous people have helped couples tie the knot on their big day. Here are 17 celebrities who’ve been wedding officiants.
“I was so honored when the couple asked me to officiate,” she wrote in her blog at the time. “We did it on the front steps of the Chateau as 40 of their friends looked on seated in a lounge-like atmosphere. It was so beautiful as I united Tony and Dex as life partners in love.”
Actor Jason Segel saved the day after Abbe Thorner and Jason Wood’s wedding officiant cancelled on them at the last minute. Segel stepped in to preside over the ceremony, which took place on an episode of “The Tonight Show” in 2010.
As the host of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette,” Chris Harrison knows a thing or two about matchmaking. He put his skills to good use by becoming ordained and officiating weddings for producers Peter Sacletter and Cassie Lambert in 2012. He went on to officiate for several other couples’ nuptials, including “Bachelor in Paradise” contestants Evan Bass and Carly Waddell, who wed in 2017.
Singer Adele was a huge part of the wedding day for her pal, British comedian Alan Carr to his husband, Paul Drayton. Not only did she officiate the ceremony, she also hosted it at her home, planned the food and, of course, performed.
“The Rock” can act, sing, wrestle and apparently, he can also officiate weddings. Johnson did the honors for superfan Nick Mundy, who married Dilara Karabas in 2015. Mundy had previously asked his idol to be his best man, and although Johnson declined at the time, he ended up being an even bigger part of the nuptials.
While doing a book signing at a Barnes & Noble, fans William Ryan and Jospeh Aiello asked late comedian Joan Rivers to marry them on the spot. Always game for anything, Rivers agreed. Because they didn’t have a proper marriage license at the time, Rivers offered her services again at a second, official ceremony in 2014.
17. Queen Latifah
In 2014, Queen Latifah officiated a mass wedding for a whopping 33 couples, and it took place on live TV as part of the Grammys. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis performed “Same Love” for the occasion, and Madonna performed “Open Your Heart.”
