Celebs Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder take month of silence after baby’s birth
When a new baby comes home, it can be an exciting but chaotic time.
New parents often find it difficult to find time to even squeeze in a shower. Meanwhile friends and family want to drop by to get a glimpse of the new bundle of joy. Parents can feel pulled in many directions. But one celebrity couple decided to opt out of this struggle with a month of silence.
Celebrities Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder just welcomed their new baby girl, Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder on July 25. The new parents are in a planned communication blackout now that their daughter has arrived. The couple said they won’t take any visitors during this time and have also turned off their cell phones.

Month Of Silence Breaks Tradition
“You don’t get those first 30 days back, and we want to be fully present,” Reed explained in a recent interview with Fit Pregnancy and Baby.
The couple bucked another trend by not finding out the sex of the baby before its birth.
“A close friend had a son and I remember thinking, ‘I hope I have a son one day.’ Then another friend had a girl and I thought, ‘How fun would it be to have a miniature version of yourself?’ ” she told the magazine. “You can’t lose, no matter what.”
Both parents also enjoyed Reed’s pregnancy phase. Reed said Somerhalder joked that he wanted his wife to stay pregnant forever. And the new mom liked the changes pregnancy brought about—both mental and physical.
She explained that she developed a new appreciation for her body as it grew a baby, adding that she felt like a more “chill and relaxed” version of herself since becoming pregnant.

What do you think of a month with no tech and no visitors during a baby’s first month? Good idea? Too isolating?
Either way, we wish the new parents and their little girl all the best over the next month. And we can’t wait see the photos once the 30 days are up!
