Disney+ Added A Chadwick Boseman Tribute To The Beginning Of ‘Black Panther’

The tribute came on what would have been his 44th birthday.

It would have been Chadwick Boseman‘s 44th birthday on Nov. 30, and among the tributes to the late actor that flooded social media channels was an announcement from The Walt Disney Company’s executive chairman, Bob Iger. Iger took to Twitter to reveal that a special tribute to Boseman would be added to “Black Panther” on Disney+.

“To all fans of #BlackPanther: watch the film on #DisneyPlus late tonight, for a special tribute to someone that was will always be near and dear to our hearts,” Iger wrote.

But people who don’t subscribe to Disney+ didn’t miss out. Marvel shared a video clip of the tribute, which adds footage of Boseman in “Black Panther” to Marvel Studios’ title card, on their own Twitter page.

The tribute was a hit with Boseman’s fans on Twitter.

“Wakanda Forever. Miss my king. Forever an icon. What a great tribute,” one wrote in the replies, while another commented, “Crying all over again!! He was a gift that we didn’t deserve to have, Chad was true to his craft and his determination should live on amongst those who cherish him.”

Boseman’s death from colon cancer was announced on his social media accounts on Aug. 28. According to the official statement, the “Black Panther” star, who had never spoken publicly about his diagnosis, had been filming movies throughout his treatments for the disease.

“Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV,” the statement read.

The impact of Boseman’s death — and his legacy as an actor — became clear the following day, when Twitter officially designated the statement as the most liked tweet ever.

Boseman’s “Black Panther” co-star Lupita Nyong’o shared her own personal birthday tribute to the actor on her Twitter account. “Deeply loved, sorely missed,” she wrote on Nov. 29 alongside a sweet image of the two stars together.
