Channing Tatum took to Instagram to share some very sad news recently. The actor let fans know that his dog, a pit bull and Catahoula mix named Lulu, had passed away.

In an emotional tribute on Dec. 19, the actor wrote on Instagram, “I’ll see you again baby girl. But you’ll always be with me. Always.”

The photo depicted the pair running on the beach, and Tatum also thanked the photographer for capturing “this memory” of the two of them.

It was another sad moment in 2018 for the actor, who announced his separation from wife Jenna Dewan in April. Dewan also mourned the loss of the dog she and Tatum had shared on social media.

She posted a sweet note to the pup on Instagram, also revealing that Lulu passed away due to cancer:

“To our sweet and fierce Lulu…thank you for being the best dog in the entire world and for fighting cancer for as long as you did. Thank you for your tireless love, protection and humor. Thank you for the adventures,” she wrote. “Heartbroken doesn’t even come close to how it feels. But you will live on forever in our hearts and our memories…fly sweet angel.”

The caption was accompanied by several photos of Lulu, including several of Dewan and the dog together. One special image even showed Lulu being a furry friend to the couple’s daughter, Everly.

In a 2015 interview with People magazine, Dewan revealed that Lulu was very jealous of Everly in the beginning, as she’d gotten used to being the couple’s center of attention.

“She didn’t like that there was someone getting all of my attention,” Dewan told People. “So we had to do a lot of work even if it was 10, 20 minutes just alone time with Lulu and petting her and saying, ‘Oh it’s OK I’m still your mommy.’ It’s just like having a sibling.”

But eventually, Lulu came to love the couple’s child and even adopted the role of “protector,” and once the switch was made — it was hard not to take notice. Everly had won Lulu over!

“I just started realizing it because the other day Everly was having a little toddler day — she was just cranky and kind of cry-y a little bit and just having one of those days that us mamas know very well,” Dewan told People. “But Lulu would follow us around the house wherever we were … if I got up and went to the kitchen she came to the kitchen and sat, and I went, ‘She’s protecting her.’”

The loving, protective pup will obviously be greatly missed by the family.

We send our condolences to the family for the loss of their beloved pet.
