Star Wars fans recently got a sneak peek at concept art from the upcoming new Disney Star Wars Land additions to its U.S. theme parks in 2019.
Disney Imagineers and LucasFilm artists shared details at the Star Wars Celebration Convention from April 13-16 in Orlando, Florida.
The new theme park expansion goal is to immerse guests into the Star Wars universe. However, Star Wars Land won’t simply be a carbon copy of the movies. The new land will be a “mysterious destination somewhere on the Outer Rim.” Designers describe the village as an outpost for “smugglers, rogue traders and adventurers traveling between the frontier and uncharted space.”
Star Wars Land ‘Familiar,’ Yet New
Disney Imagineer Creative Executive Scott Trowbridge said to expect the space to feel familiar yet new.
It would be easy to think, ‘let’s revisit some of our favorite places.’ [But] if we were go to those places, we know the stories that happen there. We know whose stories they are [and] we know that we’re no in them. We wanted to build new Star Wars stories, new destinations, but this time you can be in this story. We want you to discover your own Star Wars story, not just relive someone else’s stories.
Also, other Star Wars Land creators discussed the plan for guests to have personal encounters there.

“Our goal when we set out on this journey was to create a place that is so authentic, so real that when our guests step inside, they’re there. They’re in the movie,” said Chris Beatty, Executive Creative Director, Walt Disney Imagineering.
Even the most common things will have a Star Wars twist. For example, check out this rendering of a water fountain in the park:
