Cheryl Burke of ‘Dancing with The Stars’ is engaged to Matthew Lawrence

Congratulations to the happy couple!

“Dancing With the Stars” dance coach Cheryl Burke is officially engaged to actor Matthew Lawrence. The couple first met back in 2006 through Lawrence’s brother, Joey, who was a contestant on “Dancing With the Stars.”

Though Lawrence and Burke broke up in 2008, they got back together last year. The engagement happened on Burke’s birthday, making for a double celebration.

The dancer shared the good news on Instagram, where she showed off a photo of her ring:

A Surprise Birthday Gift

“OMG! So far so good for 34! #amilliontimesyes #imengaged #herecomesthebride,” she captioned the photo of herself alongside Lawrence.

The gorgeous ring is made with a family heirloom, giving it extra significance.

“The diamond has special meaning as it’s the same diamond that Cheryl’s late father, Steve Burke, gave to her mother,” Susan Madore, Burke’s representative, told Newsweek. “Matthew, with the help of his mother Donna, Cheryl’s mother Sherri and XIV Karats, had the stone reset and added more diamonds to create the ring he proposed to Cheryl with.”

Engagement By The Beach

Lawrence shared some of the romantic details of the big proposal with Us Weekly. The couple were watching the sunset from their hotel on Laguna Beach, California, when the groom-to-be popped the question.

“I handed her this note that said, ‘I will love you always and forever,” Lawrence recalled. “‘That’s what’s engraved in this ring — I want you to marry me.’”

Companionship Is Foundation To Strong Relationship

Burke says that a strong friendship is the foundation of their romance.

“I think we have really good companionship and I think we just built from there,” Burke told Us Weekly of her bond with her new fiancé. “That’s the most important thing. We can actually hang out. When we go away together, we really enjoy it. When it’s just the two of us, it’s the best.”

It looks like the second time’s the charm. In fact, in this Instagram post from just last month, Burke captioned this photo with, “This time around is even better.”

“We Talk Constantly:

And despite their busy schedules, the happy couple finds ways to stay connected even across long distances.

“Matt is very supportive and he always wants to make sure that we keep in contact and we’re always on the phone, making sure that everything’s okay,” Burke told People back when she and Lawrence first dated. “We talk constantly for hours and hours.”

And, based on this video clip of the couple’s official engagement photo shoot, it looks like they are happy and excited to get wedding plans started.

Will It Be A Destination Wedding?

In fact, in the latest issue of US Weekly, Burke and Lawrence talked openly about their plans to marry soon.

“We definitely want to get married as soon as possible,” Burke reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly. “Originally we wanted to do a destination wedding, so we have different places we’re eyeing.”

One of the locations likely on the newly engaged couple’s list is Amanpulo, a private island in the Philippines, according to Lawrence.

“We went with Cheryl’s family over the holidays and it’s just such a magical place,” he told Us Weekly.

And, Burke can’t seem to get enough of sharing photos with her family, friends and fans with her soon-t0-be husband. She definitely has the engagement glow going on!
