Chick-fil-A is testing a spicy new chicken sandwich topped with pimento cheese and honey
Chick-fil-A lovers may have another new menu item to enjoy soon. Just a few days after announcing a new mocha cream cold brew and chocolate fudge brownie, the fast-food chain shared news about a new sandwich on the horizon, as its classic chicken sandwich is set to get a spicy upgrade.
For a limited time, select Chick-fil-A locations will be testing a Honey Pepper Pimento Sandwich. This new menu item features the original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich topped with a drizzle of honey, a pile of pimento cheese and mild pickled jalapeños. All of that savory sweetness is served on a warm, toasted bun.
Stuart Tracy, a senior culinary developer for Chick-fil-A, said the Honey Pepper Pimento Sandwich has been in the works for more than a year. Looking at changing up a classic for a potential seasonal item apparently takes time to perfect. And, the creators think they’ve hit on something worth sharing.
“This is the first variation of the original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich we’ve tested as a seasonal item,” said Tracy in a statement. “We have a feeling guests will love it.”
Actually, the company already knows its loyal fans are going to love the new offering. During the sandwich’s preliminary taste tests with customers, Tracy said it “won in a landslide” when compared to other concept sandwiches created in Chick-fil-A’s taste labs.
If you’re not into spicy foods, you may wonder if this sandwich will be too hot for your palate. Tracy offered some reassurance to anyone who may hesitate to give the Honey Pepper Pimento Sandwich a try.
“The jalapeños add what we call ‘entry-level’ spice,” he said. “They give the sandwich just a little kick, bringing a Southwest influence that pairs well with honey and pimento cheese.”
Of course, the sandwich is also customizable. So, if spice is not so nice for you, simply ask for it without the peppers. (Waffle fries dipped in some ranch will also rescue your tongue from a spicy sensation.)
The new sandwich’s inspiration came from Tracy’s prior culinary experience of experimenting with the best elements of a great sandwich: combining sweet, salty and savory flavors with the perfect level of melty cheese. It looks like this sandwich ticks all those boxes.
The Honey Pepper Pimento Sandwich will be tested in select North Carolina and South Carolina stores before it possibly goes nationwide. So, keep your eyes on the Chick-fil-A menu to see if it gets added in the future!
