How Chick-fil-A’s New Egg White Grill Compares To The Egg McMuffin
For some time, the McDonald’s Egg McMuffin has been lauded as the healthiest fast-food breakfast around. It was praised for its low number of calories, clocking in at 300, as well as its amount of lean protein from the eggs and Canadian bacon. But now, there’s a new breakfast in town that’s threatening to rival the fast food staple, and you can find it at none other than Chick-fil-A.
Their new “Egg White Grill” sandwich features egg, cheese and grilled chicken. This sandwich also comes in at 300 calories, but it has less saturated fat and more protein than an Egg McMuffin. However, it does contain significantly more sodium, with a whopping 970 mg. A solution to the high-salt problem is to ask for the sandwich without cheese, which can knock off 200mg.
Here are how the two sandwiches compare:
Egg McMuffin:
- 290 Calories
- 12 g Fat
- 6 g Saturated Fat
- 710 mg Sodium
- 17 g Protein
- 2 g Fiber
Egg White Grill:
- 300 Calories
- 7 g Fat
- 3 g Saturated Fat
- 970 mg Sodium
- 26 g Protein
- 1 g Fiber
The competition is pretty close, but it’s hard to beat the lower fat and higher protein of the Chick-fil-A version. However, the salt content is hard to ignore, so it’s hard to choose what’s the best option.
In terms of price, Chick-fil-A’s sandwich starts at $3.35 whereas an Egg McMuffin starts at $2.79.
These are both good choices if you’re on the go, but you’re always better off making your own breakfast at home. Need inspiration? Check out this awesome breakfast sandwich-making machine and these 13 delicious breakfasts you can whip up in a matter of minutes.
