Starbucks Introduces New Drink Obsession: Chile Mocha

With fall around the corner, it’s time to get excited for Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte. But just when you thought the fall menu couldn’t get better, Starbucks has added a new drink to the mix: Chile Mocha.

Now there is a another seasonal drink to have with your favorite fall-flavored snacks. Does it get any better?

The beverage joined the Pumpkin Spice Latte (known as PSL) in stores starting Sept. 6. Don’t worry about not finding the new Chile Mocha—it’s available in Starbucks locations across the country.

Chile Mocha is combines chile, cayenne chile pepper, sea salt and paprika. Along with the spicy flavors, the beverage is steamed with milk and cocoa. Add whipped cream and cinnamon to truly enjoy the heat and spice of the Chile Mocha.

Starbucks knows how to do fall. With PSL making its 13th consecutive seasonal appearance, the company was excited to debut another fall-flavored drink into the mix. The team was inspired by a range of flavors such as horchata, mole and a Mexican drink called champurrado.

Along with those flavors, the team tried different chiles to see which would complement steamed chocolate and milk.

“We found that the ancho chile and cayenne perfectly complemented chocolate, with a sweet touch and an approachable amount of heat,” Starbucks senior product developer, Michele Sundquist, said.

If this sounds too hot for your palate, turn the heat down by ordering Chile Mocha over ice as a Frappuccino.

It gets even better, Starbucks also offers it coffee-free in a hot chocolate version.
