Chili Cheese Dog Egg Rolls Are The Snack You Didn’t Know You Needed

Palatable Pastime

If you’re searching for a meal the whole family will enjoy, look no further. Chili cheese dog egg rolls are the mash-up you didn’t know you needed in your life, and whether you’re cooking them up for lunch, making them in advance of a beach trip with the kiddos or serving them to the entire family for dinner, these will come in handy when there are hungry folks come mealtime and snack-time.

The recipe comes from Palatable Pastime and calls for hot dogs, sliced cheese, egg roll wrappers and a side of chili and cheese sauce, such as canned queso or Cheez Whiz.

You’ll start by laying an egg roll wrapper out flat and placing a slice of cheese on top. Add the hot dog and begin to roll the egg roll wrapped until the cheese and the hot dog are covered. You can add a little water to the edges to help the wrapper stay in place better.

In a skillet, add oil to fry these hot dog egg rolls right on your stovetop. Cook until the wrapper is golden brown. Then, serve alongside the can of chili and cheese that have been melted in the microwave or on the stovetop and mixed together. The recipe also suggests adding hot sauce if you’d like the dipping sauce to have a bit of a spicy kick.

And there you have it, an easy meal that adults and kids alike can enjoy:

If you’d like to avoid cooking with hot oil, you can also bake these hot dog egg rolls, as the recipe from the Cheap Recipe blog suggests. This version says to paint each egg roll with oil using a pastry brush and bake for 12 to 15 minutes at 350 degrees to yield a perfectly crispy outer layer:

To take the recipe a step further, you can have some fun with customizing each of the hot dog egg rolls to include the toppings your family members would normally use to top their hot dogs off.

This recipe from Busy In Brooklyn includes sauerkraut and sweet pickle relish with the hot dog before wrapping it in a wonton wrapper and frying it up:

And a version from Just A Pinch Recipes went so far as to include baked beans and cole slaw with a hot dog and cheddar cheese before transforming it into an egg roll. So, if you prefer your hot dog “all the way,” you’ll definitely want to pack in the ingredients before securing the wrapper:
