Chip and Joanna Gaines are helping an 81-year-old Harvey victim rebuild her home

Demo day is always exciting for “Fixer Upper” hosts Chip and Joanna Gaines, but this one seems a little extra special. The home repair/interior design duo has teamed up with ExxonMobil and Rebuilding Together Houston to restore 81-year-old Doris Davis’ home, which had significant damage after Hurricane Harvey. The crew didn’t waste a minute before getting to work, either.

“Man, we pulled into town and these boys said, ‘Hey, let’s go to work,’” Chip told KHOU11. “I said, ‘Great you’re speaking my language.'”

Of course, being the jokester he is, Chip continued, “Now, Jo on the other hand—she got her nails done this morning.”

The KHOU reporter, Melissa Correa, posted her station’s story to her Instagram:

This seems to be everything you’d imagine of a “Fixer Upper” charity project—Chip’s jokes included! And Davis couldn’t have been more surprised to see the celebrity home-reno couple arrive at her house.

“I mean, I wasn’t expecting this honey,” she told KHOU11, after demanding kisses on both cheeks from Chip.

Davis was in her home when Hurricane Harvey struck and the flooding became significant. There was two feet of water in her house, and Davis was unable to get out of the house for three days before her neighbors came to check on her and were able to help her get to a hospital.

“I don’t know if I was so frightened, from all this going on, I really could not move,” Davis told the news station.

It seems as though the Gaineses are more than happy to do their part to help Davis and her three dogs return to their home. They’re predicting the project will be completed in about four weeks.

“So proud to lend a hand,” Chip wrote on Instagram with some shots from the day. “Can’t wait to get Doris back in her home!”

The couple recently announced that season 5 of “Fixer Upper” will be their last. They’re hoping to be able to pursue other projects once the show’s complete:

“Our plan is to take this time to shore up and strengthen the spots that are weak, rest the places that are tired and give lots of love and attention to both our family and our businesses,” they wrote in an announcement on their Magnolia website.

Although Chip and Joanna will be greatly missed on our TV screens, we can all support charitable efforts like these.
