Chrissy Teigen loves sharing her life with her fans on social media. So, it was no surprise to see her recent tweets about her family’s trip to Washington, D.C., for the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Teigen’s husband, John Legend, performed as part of the inauguration night’s “Celebrating America” primetime TV event, so the whole family traveled together to attend the festivities.

Teigen shared a variety of moments from her time in the capital, and with her typical candor, she reflected on how the world looks different since she’s stopped drinking alcohol.

She shared a beautiful photo of herself, Legend and their two children standing and looking at the Washington Monument.

“Just incredible to be here. sober,” she wrote in the tweet. “I know that’s weird but it’s like…a different world for me. everything is new and better. very happy. the most happy bigly happy.”

Never one to shy away from revealing personal struggles, including a heartbreaking miscarriage in October 2020, Teigen told the world she was “four weeks sober” at the end of December, and she has been open about her struggles with alcohol over the years.

Her family’s trip to the inauguration also came with its share of drama, though.

First, she tweeted some behind-the-scenes moments during the Jan. 19 rehearsal for her husband’s “Celebrating America” performance.

A great post, but apparently the tweet had also accidentally let the cat out of the bag that Legend was a performer in the event, which was supposed to be a surprise. Whoops!

About 35 minutes later, Teigen tweeted again that she “got scolded” for having spilled the beans.

On a more serious note, some people took issue with Teigen and her family taking a trip in the middle of a pandemic, calling her happiness and her cross-country travel while many other people are stuck at home “tone-deaf.”

Teigen responded to the criticism and acknowledged that there is a lot of frustration about pandemic restrictions right now.

However, another tweet reveals that the family apparently got tested daily for COVID-19 exposure for a week leading up to the inauguration.

In the end, Teigen and her family cherished their experience in the capital, and capped off the night with some fireworks accompanied by Katy Perry‘s song, “Firework.”
