Having a clean house can really help brighten your mood. Unfortunately, when you lack the energy to even walk around, the last thing you want to do is clean.
That’s what happened to Stacey Steele a couple of year ago. Stacey was battling ovarian cancer and she barely had the energy to do the daily necessities like walking to the bathroom or showering. Steele told Today, “I was so weak that showering would literally be my main activity for the day, and when you’re not feeling good, the last thing you want to do is go into a dirty bathroom.”
This is where Cleaning For A Reason comes to the rescue. The non-profit offers free housekeeping services to cancer patients. The founder, Debbie Sardone, owned a cleaning company and was receiving calls from women who were undergoing cancer and needed someone to help clean their house. Unfortunately, a lot of the people in this situation don’t have the extra money to afford a cleaning services as the cancer treatments can be so expensive.
Debbie then realized should could help them and provide a free cleaning service to cancer patients. After talking at a cleaning convention, she discovered that many other cleaning companies also were interested in helping.
10 years later, Cleaning For A Reason has provided $5.5 million in free cleaning services to more than 19,500 women. They partner with other companies to fill approximately 1,400 cleaning requests each month. The cancer patients are not charged for their work, but the company employees are paid for their time.
