If you’re looking to make some extra cash or are simply eager to find a new home for old collectibles, it’ll help to first get familiar with the types of items that have a good resale value.
We consulted with Everything But The House (EBTH), the premier online estate sale marketplace, to suss out some of the common household items that sell for a surprisingly large chunk of change.
1. Old Toys
From baseball cards to rare and unique items, toy collections in good condition can quickly go from collecting dust to earning you money. Take this vintage Hot Wheels collection that sold for $1,275. Not bad for toys that, when purchased new these days, sell for less than a dollar a piece!
2. Vintage Brands
People will pay a lot for a walk down memory lane. Take this collection of beer cans from the 1950s and 1960s that sold for $2,400 and includes old-school brands such as Horlacher, Pennsylvania Old Dutch German and Tudor.
3. Old Books
Book collections are often passed down through generations. If you have old books in good condition sitting on your shelves, take a peek to see if you have any early editions of well-known or rare titles, such as this first U.S. edition of “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” which sold for $4,000.
4. Comic Books
Hardcovers aren’t the only books that can sell for a good price. Vintage and rare comic books are also in demand, particularly those from popular series. This collection of Marvel and DC Comics books from the ’50s and ’60s, for example, included such enduring characters as Superman and Spiderman, and sold for $2,050.
5. Old Coins
Whether you have one rare coin or a collection, there just may be a collector out there eager to buy it from you. Take this rare $5 gold coin from 1905, for example, which sold for $675, or this collection of nearly 1,000 silver dollars that sold for $17,096.
6. Vintage Holiday Decor
If you’re looking to reduce the clutter (or find some vintage prices for a great price,) consider checking EBTH for vintage Holiday decor. This collection of vintage Christmas Light Ornaments is currently at $177.00.
7. Boy Scout Memorabilia
These Boy Scout badges and other collectibles have a current bid of $240. How about that for a return on investment?
