Conchata Ferrell, a longtime actress of the stage, movies and television, died on Oct. 12. Ferrell, who was 77, died at Sherman Oaks Hospital in Los Angeles following cardiac arrest, according to publicist Cynthia Snyder.

Ferrell was a three-time Emmy-nominated actress during her more than 50-year career. Her first nomination came in 1992 for her portrayal of foul-mouthed entertainment lawyer Susan Bloom in “L.A. Law.”

However, it was the role of Berta the housekeeper in the long-running CBS series “Two and a Half Men” that earned her the most attention, as well as two more Emmy nominations.

Ferrell was on “Two and a Half Men” for all 12 seasons of the show, which ran from 2003 through 2015. She costarred with Jon Cryer and Charlie Sheen for the first eight years of the show. Then, after Sheen was fired in 2011, Ashton Kutcher joined the cast.

After hearing the news of his former co-star’s death, Cryer shared his grief and some memories of Ferrell on Twitter.

“She was a beautiful human,” he wrote. “Berta’s gruff exterior was an invention of the writers. Chatty’s warmth and vulnerability were her real strengths,” he said, using the cast’s nickname for her, “Chatty.” “I’m crying for the woman I’ll miss, and the joy she brought so many.”

Cryer also encouraged his followers to check out some of Ferrell’s other work, including the films “Edward Scissorhands,” “Erin Brockovich” and “Network.”

Sheen joined his former “Two and a Half Men” star in expressing his appreciation for Ferrell, both offstage and on.

Chuck Lorre, the creator of “Two and a Half Men,” shared a statement with CNN about Ferrell and how she was a “rock” through the ups and downs of the show.

“We called her Chatty. And we all loved her,” Lorre said in a statement to CNN. “Twelve years of highs and lows, and lots and lots of laughter. Through it all, she was a rock. One of the greats. I was privileged to call her a friend.”

Ferrell is survived by her husband, Arnie Anderson, and her daughter, Samantha.
