Couple met at Dunkin’ Drive-Thru and got married there 5 years later

Sugar Good, the general manager at a Dunkin’ in Oklahoma City, was used to seeing many customers throughout the day at her drive-thru window, but one particular patron, John Thompson, caught her eye in 2015.

“When he smiled, his eyes sparkled,” Good, 49, told Insider.

Thompson was similarly smitten when he’d pick up his morning coffee and breakfast order and would make eye contact with Good.

“We just connected. She made me smile just by looking at her,” he told the publication.

It took the couple about a year to go on a first date. Last April, Thompson proposed while dropping Good off at Dunkin’ before her shift began at 3 a.m.

“When John and I were planning our big day, we decided there was no better place to say ‘I do’ than right where we met,” Good said in a news release.

Their Oct. 13 nuptials required the franchise to shut down the drive-thru for 15 minutes. The ceremony featured a donut cake, bouquet, custom photo donuts, and free glazed and maple-glazed donuts — the couple’s favorites — for all customers. After the ceremony, Thompson drove off with his new wife in his red truck with a “Just Married” sign and Dunkin’ coffee cups trailing behind.

The Thompsons are the latest couple to have non-traditional nuptials. Last year, a couple caught in an unusual September blizzard decided to “wing it” and took snowy snaps outdoors. In 2015, Ross Basham and his bride, Hannah Phillips, from the United Kingdom took a literal plunge — bungee jumping after saying their “I dos.”
