This couple had a 4-tier pizza for their wedding cake
This should go down as the best wedding in history. Jessica Melara and Tony Sanchez chose to serve pizza instead of cake at their wedding, and it was pretty much the smartest decision ever.
The couple wed in Miami, Florida, after a total of 13 years together and a two-year engagement. So, it’s no wonder they got their wedding-day style just right—they took their time to get to know one another and make sure their plans fell smoothly into place.
And since neither the bride nor groom are fans of cake, it just didn’t make sense to serve it at their wedding. Why spend money on a dessert you don’t love, right?
One food the couple was head over heels for: pizza.
“Tony and I love pizza and aren’t huge fans of cake, so we surprised our guests with Pizza Cake (yes, I said pizza cake!),” the bride told Wedding Chicks. “It was saucy and delicious and what pizza dreams are made of.”

We’re sure their wedding guests—and the rest of the world—agree that this was an excellent choice for a wedding reception dessert.
Based on the photos, it looks like there were four tiers of pizza stacked on top of one another, some basil leaves as decoration and a traditional bride-and-groom cake topper. Just genius!
The pizza cake wasn’t the only unique element at this wedding, however.
The reception was full of throwback photos of the long-term couple, and the bride had her best friend’s dad serve as the officiant. Since Sanchez is a professional baseball player, there were also nods to the sport throughout the affair, such as Cracker Jack favors.
So really, the pizza cake was just the icing on the cake, so to speak, when it comes to all of the ways this couple made their big day a reflection of their relationship.
They may have been some of the first to think of serving pizza instead of cake, but we have a feeling they won’t be the last couple to do this. Will pizza cake be the next big wedding trend? We can only hope.
