Couple welcomes identical twin girls 6 years after having identical twin boys

You might say that Jake and Erin Credo won the baby lottery. Back in March, the expectant Baton Rouge, Louisiana, couple discovered that they were having twins. Erin became aware of the fact during an ultrasound appointment.

“I immediately saw it,” she told The Advocate. “There were two little yolk sacs.”

While not all pregnant moms would be able to discern two babies in the monitor’s fuzzy image, Erin was a bit of an expert. Six years earlier, she had given birth to Cooper and Grant, the Credos’ identical twin sons.

On Sept. 22, Lola and Allie, the couple’s second set of identical twins, were born.

“Obviously, we were excited,” Erin told The Advocate. “We’ve done it before. Having twins, it’s all we know.”

Identical twins occur when a single fertilized egg divides into two. According to Twin Parents, the odds of having one set of identical twins is about 1 in 250. According to Woman’s Hospital, the chances of having a second set of identical twins is very rare.

“The Credo family brought home their second set of identical twins today,” the Louisiana hospital posted on Facebook, alongside this sweet photo of Cooper and Grant holding their baby sisters. “Something that only happens about once in every 111,000 pregnancies!”

When everyone in the family contracted COVID-19 in mid-August, there was some concern.

“Thankfully, we didn’t have any major issues that would have exacerbated the situation,” Erin told The Advocate. “We were really blessed.”

Allie and Lola were born about eight weeks early on Sept. 22. Allie weighed 4 pounds, 6 ounces, and Lola weighed 3 pounds, 12 ounces. The girls stayed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for four weeks before being released.

“It’s been challenging,” Erin told WAFB. But now that the girls are home with their parents and big brothers, the family is focused on enjoying their good fortune.

“Now is when the zoo and the fun begins of having two sets of very, very special twins,” Erin told WAFB. “Round two, here we go. I need to go buy a lottery ticket now.”
