10 delicious and unexpected things you can make in an air fryer

For those of you who haven’t jumped on the air fryer train, get ready to have even more reasons to fall in love with this kitchen appliance. Air fryers use convection to circulate hot air around anything you put in them, cooking the food that’s suspended in a basket. It’s generally a healthier method of cooking that requires little to no oil — not to mention it makes cleaning much easier!

Air fryers are great for cooking foods that have been previously frozen or already fried, but they can also be used for all sorts of other delicious recipes, such as turkey meatballs and sweet breakfast treats. Below is our round-up of 10 fabulous things you can make in an air fryer.

Fish And Chips

Blogger Berry Maple shows us how to make classic fish and chips without the greasy oil and calories in her recipe that can be used for nearly any fish: cod, tilapia, halibut, salmon and more. Taking one filet at a time, she thoroughly dips each one in flour, eggs and breadcrumbs, which ultimately makes for a crunchy, satisfying coating once the fish has been air-fried to perfection.

Strawberry Lemonade Pop-Tarts

For a sweet morning breakfast, try out blogger Abbey’s Kitchen’s strawberry lemonade pop-tarts. These pop-tarts are not only vegan, they’re also a good source of fiber, thanks to the wheat dough, making them better for you than the store-bought kind. With a strawberry chia jam for the inside and a zesty lemon glaze for the outside, these on-the-go breakfast desserts are perfect for when you’re running a bit late, but still want to treat yourself.

Turkey Meatballs

Blogger Dash of Evan’s quick turkey meatball recipe is paired with veggie spirals, making for a healthy alternative to your traditional spaghetti and meatballs. After combining all the ingredients for the meatballs in one bowl (easy cleanup!), all you do is use a cookie scooper to make equal sized meatballs. In 12 minutes, you’ll have perfectly cooked meatballs that can be tossed in your favorite pasta sauce. This blogger opts for a classic marinara, but you can choose whatever you like!

Fried Banana S’mores

This fun s’mores recipe by Meredith Laurence uses a banana as the vessel to melt all the yummy ingredients that go into it! Taking an unpeeled banana, all you do is slice it lengthwise and stuff it with chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, graham cracker cereal and marshmallows. After around six minutes in the air fryer, you’ll have a blackened banana filled with a salty-sweet gooey inside that no one will be able to resist. After they cool, serve with a spoon because they’re ready to get devoured!

Sriracha-Honey Chicken Wings

These chicken wings are air fried for 30 minutes before being coating in a spicy-sweet sriracha-honey sauce. The sauce is simple to make and requires only five ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen. Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside, these wings are the perfect finger food to bring to a party. Head over to Karen’s Kitchen Stories for the full recipe.

Fruit Hand Pies

Handheld pies. Need we say more? These pies can be made in under half an hour and they call for store-bought pie crust. Blogger Show Me The Yummy features four different types of pies in her post: s’mores with marshmallow fluff and Nutella, blueberry, caramel apple with a soft caramel center and cherry. After folding in the filling, you pop it into the air fryer for 11 minutes and you’re ready to eat your portable desserts!

Buffalo Cauliflower

Light, flavorful and crunchy, this recipe for buffalo cauliflower only requires four ingredients! Blogger Glue and Glitter prefers a light coating of batter which is made with panko breadcrumbs mixed with sea salt for extra crunch. In an effort to keep the side dish vegan, she suggests using a hot sauce such as Frank’s Red Hot which has the balanced, fiery buffalo taste everyone loves.

Cinnamon Rolls

Blogger Fork to Spoon reminds us that not all incredibly delicious things need to be complicated to make. All you need here is one can of Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls. You follow the instructions on the can, pop them in the air fryer for a total of 10 minutes, coat with icing and you’re all set! If you’re feeling fancy, you can also include crunchy bacon bits in the icing for a salty-sweet morning treat.

Mozzarella Cheese Sticks

This instant crowd-pleaser is healthier than the deep-fried version and tastes just as good. Blogger Simply Scratch starts by taking string cheeses and cutting them in half. After dipping each in egg and coating them in a simple mixture of seasoning and breadcrumbs, she pops them into the freezer and then cooks them in the air fryer. Served with marinara or ranch, it’s a fun, satisfying snack for any time of day.

Egg Rolls

Most people think making egg rolls is difficult, but blogger The Cookful is here to show us it’s not! Her eggs rolls are stuffed with a simple, classic filling of ground pork, shredded cabbage, green onions and a savory oyster sauce. Be sure to read this blogger’s tips, which include coating each roll with vegetable oil before air frying to ensure they stay nice and crisp.

Happy air frying!
