Why the internet is in an uproar over this Denny’s mascot

Denny’s may be known for its delicious eggs, pancakes, bacon and sausage. But once you see these Denny’s mascots in action, you may not be so keen on eating at least one of their breakfast menu items.

Back in 2014, Denny’s started a YouTube series to advertise their Grand Slam breakfast, giving each breakfast item its own “identity.” Three years later—someone noticed that the sausage link’s animated character resembled, well, poop. (We’re surprised it took three years, to be honest!)

And trust us—once you’ve seen it, you can’t unsee it. Take a look at the video below, and keep a close eye on that sausage.

According to Good Housekeeping, Twitter user @ArmyStrang posted about the sausage link, writing “The Dennys [sic] turd is here with lunch.”

Since then, the post has gone viral, receiving over 3,000 shares and 14,000 likes at the time of publication. Many people online have chimed in, as they’ve noticed poor Mr. Sausage’s resemblance to poop. But what some people just can’t get over is the fact that he’s wearing a hat.

“I’ve been laughing the past couple of minutes by the fact of whatever it is, it has a hat on…,” one Twitter user responded.

Maybe that was an attempt to set the sausage apart? But, unfortunately, it seems as though Denny’s has failed in those efforts—because it still looks like poop.

Not only does this little guy appear on YouTube, but he’s also printed on menus in Denny’s restaurants, too, as another Twitter user pointed out.

Based on the comments online, the unappetizing sausage character doesn’t seem to be stopping people from wanting to eat at Denny’s. They’re more baffled that a mascot this poorly designed made its way to the public eye. In fact, some are giving Mr. Suasage their vote for “worst mascot.”

“Worst mascot since the Red Cross Used Larry The Leech for blood drives,” someone wrote on Twitter.

Denny’s has no plans to change the mascot, despite the unflattering comparisons.

“We do not have any plans to change how Sausage looks because … well, he looks exactly how a breakfast sausage should look,” ohn Dillon, chief marketing officer at Denny’s, told the Sacramento Bee. “And of course, we’d hate to give Sausage a complex because we—and his Grand Slams family—love him just the way he is.”

So, go on with the jokes, but remember—you may be hurting the sausage’s feelings. And what’d he ever do to you? Except make your breakfast even more delicious!
