Derek and Hannah Jeter welcome their first child, daughter Bella Raine

Derek and Hannah Jeter were married in July of 2016 and, in February of 2017, the couple announced they were expecting. They finally gave birth to a little girl on Aug. 17. Her name—Bella Raine.

Apparently, Derek had his mind made up on a name well before his daughter was born. Hannah wrote a post for The Players’ Tribune (a site founded by Derek) that read, “He already has a name in mind — he’s set on it. (We’ll see.) He’ll say when he calls me during the day: ‘So, how are you and so-and-so doing,'” she wrote. “‘That’s not the name yet, sweetie.’ Whatever her name is, I know she’ll run circles around him.”

Whether Bella Raine is the name her father had in mind or not, it certainly is adorable.

Despite Derek’s A-list status as a former professional baseball player, and Hannah’s modeling career, they’re hoping their children will live a “normal” life. In the post Hannah penned, she wrote, “We want our kids’ lives to be as ‘normal’ as possible. They’re going to be born into such an extraordinary situation. They’re going to have to be some strong little people. We don’t want them to be defined by their dad’s name — for them, we want him to just be ‘Dad.’ That will be the piece of him they’ll have that the rest of the world doesn’t. It will be special, and it will be theirs.”

And now, their journey as parents has officially begun.

When Derek’s Yankees jersey was retired before the baby was born, he said at the ceremony, “When you play here in New York for 20 years, I learned that the time flies, memories fade, but the family is forever. And I’ll be eternally grateful to be a part of the Yankees family.”

But he’s got a different kind of family to focus on now. We couldn’t be happier for the new parents. Congratulations to this family of three!
