Prince William and Kate Middleton Announce Details Of Prince Louis’ Christening Service

Now that all of the excitement from the royal wedding has died down, it’s time to turn our attention back to the adorable little prince who was born about a month before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said “I do.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton have announced the details of Prince Louis’ christening service, which is set to take place on July 9. An official press release from the palace stated:

“[T]he christening of Prince Louis will take place on Monday 9th July at The Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace, London. Prince Louis will be christened by The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby.”

The Most Reverend Justin Welby was also a part of the royal wedding ceremony, officiating as Markle and Prince Harry said their vows.

This will be a very special moment for the royal family, as Middleton and Prince William’s third child is officially admitted into the Christian church. It’s also the first event that the royal parents have attended with Prince Louis in tow since he was born — they even opted to keep him at home during his uncle’s wedding.

If Prince Louis’ christening is like that of Prince George and Princess Charlotte, he will wear an all-white ensemble, which is steeped in tradition and is a nod to the christening gown made for Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter in 1841.

He will also be christened with the silver gilt Lily Font, a baptismal bowl that is a part of the Royal Collection Trust and typically on display at the Tower of London.

Prince Louis will also likely be granted godparents, but it’s hard to know exactly who his royal parents have chosen for the job, as they took very different approaches with their first two children.

Prince George has seven godparents, including a member of the royal family — Prince William’s cousin — as well as close friends and family the parents.

Princess Charlotte, however, had only five godparents named, and no member of the royal family were included. Instead, the parents chose to name members of Princess Diana’s family and close friends as their daughter’s godparents.

As far as who will make the cut for their third child — only time will tell. But, whoever is slated to fill the special role will be expected to provide an example of the Christian way of life, answer questions about faith and generally act as a role model, as all godparents are expected to do.

In the meantime, we’ll be waiting to (hopefully) get a glimpse of royal baby No. 3 at the christening service!
