7 Discontinued Cereals That Deserve A Comeback

The only thing worse than your favorite TV show getting canceled is your favorite junk food being discontinued. Has this ever happened to you? Whether it’s your favorite flavor of potato chips or Taco Bell’s Naked Chicken Chalupa, it’s always tragic to say adios to guilty pleasures.

But the craving for these retired junk foods gets even more intense when nostalgia plays a part. Here are some discontinued cereals from the ’80s and ’90s that definitely need to make a comeback.

(Were you more of a ’60s kid? Then this list is for you.)

1. Oreo O’s

Oreo O’s made their debut in 1997, and they were the most epic breakfast cereal to ever grace this planet. Chocolately. Crunchy. Creamy. It was basically like eating cookies for breakfast. But, alas, they are no longer… unless you live in South Korea.

2. Dino Pebbles

Here’s a favorite of ’80s kids everywhere! Dino Pebbles were like Lucky Charms, but cooler, ’cause they had multi-colored dinosaurs as marshmallows, and the cereal had a sweeter, vanilla-ish flavor.

3. Pop Tarts Crunch Cereal

Remember this short-lived offering? It showed up in stores in 1994, and there were 2 flavor options: Brown Sugar Cinnamon and Strawberry. It only lasted around a year, but you know what they say, the shortest love affairs are sometimes the sweetest.

4. Sprinkle Spangles

This offering from General Mills was basically just a bunch of sprinkles in a bowl… a.k.a. awesome for kids, not so awesome for parents! Remember the commercials said they “spangled every angle with sprinkles”? Ah. Such a beautiful sugar rush. Well, if you’re really nostalgic, you can get this super-cool magnet on Etsy:

5. Pro Stars Cereal

Does anyone else remember this cereal? The commercial featured Wayne Gretzy, and the star-shaped bits were whole-grain and sweetened with honey. Definitely a throw-back favorite!

6. Teddy Grahams Breakfast Bears Cereal

The great thing about this cereal was that it was just an excuse to eat cookies for breakfast. (Although, I guess the same can be said for nearly every offering on this list.) But, jeez, the commercials were kind of creepy in retrospect!

7. Cinnamon Mini Buns

Miniature cinnamon buns in milk. What’s not to love? While Kellogg’s stopped making Cinnamon Mini Buns, the company now offers a Cinnabon cereal, which could be a good substitute.

Hey, if “Full House” and “Duck Tales” can get a re-do, why not our favorite sugary breakfast cereals?!
