Disney commemorates the latest ride closures with limited-edition merchandise
There’s nothing like the impending closure of a Disney ride to remind fans just how much they love it. So, while Ellen’s Energy Adventure and the Great Movie Ride have now closed their doors, lots of visitors to Walt Disney World in Orlando have been making sure to pick up some commemorative merch as a final goodbye.

It’s a unique sendoff that’s getting people really excited. Guests have been snatching up hats, shirts and travel mugs to commemorate their favorite former attractions. And if you missed the last hurrahs on Aug. 13, you still have a chance to shop the swag if you act while supplies last.
“If your favorite ride is the Great Movie Ride, before the closing, you really had nowhere to buy anything,” Matt Roseboom, editor and publisher of Attractions Magazine, told the Orlando Sentinel. “It’s a great opportunity to buy something to represent their favorite ride.”

The Great Movie Ride merch says “That’s A Wrap! August 2017” and gear celebrating Ellen’s Energy Adventure says “Extinct: August 2017.” If you don’t have a Disney World trip on the immediate horizon, not to worry—you can still get the goods online at the Disney Store, and some pieces are already showing up on eBay.
You may recall that Disney announced in July it was shutting down the two attractions to build new ones. The Great Movie Ride at Hollywood Studios will be replaced with Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. In Epcot, Ellen’s Energy Adventure will be replaced with a Guardians of the Galaxy ride. According to the Disney Parks Blog, you’ll be able to visit the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction by 2021, which will mark Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th anniversary.

If you’re always on the hunt for the latest and greatest Disney parks goodies, on the West Coast you can grab a trendy new mug that people are going crazy for: the new Starbucks Disneyland mug. Currently it’s only officially on sale at Market House on Disneyland’s Main Street, but people are also posting these beauties on eBay, marking them up by at least $20.
