Disney Is Making A Live-Action ‘Dumbo’ And The Cast Is Amazing
If you love the classic 1941 Disney version of “Dumbo,” then hang on to your trunks, because a live-action version is coming to town. Settle down under the Big Top to watch everyone’s favorite elephant spring to life on the silver screen.
Directed by Tim Burton (a surprising choice for the classic children’s movie, given his directorial style), the cast is already picking up huge names… and we can’t wait.
Between Burton as director and “Transformers” film franchise screenwriter Ehren Kruger, Dumbo 2.0 is sure to be a huge hit. The film will be a mixture of live-action and animation, which means it’s sure to evoke some fond memories of the 1941 original.
If the thought of Will Smith as Dumbo himself fills you with glee, then you’re in luck, because according to Hollywood sources, he has been heavily courting Tim Burton to snag the part.
Since live-action Disney movies tend to perform well, this could be a big steal for Smith, who has recently starred in a depressing number of duds, most recently “Collateral Beauty,” which critics neatly eviscerated.
Fan-favorite Tom Hanks might even be starring as the villain, according to Variety, but this is not yet confirmed.

It must be noted, however, that Hanks could choose instead to star in the World War II drama “The Grey Hound.”
If Smith and Hanks do indeed throw their hats in the ring and star in “Dumbo,” they’d be in good company with other major actors who have picked up Disney films.
From Angelina Jolie in “Maleficent” to Johnny Depp’s traditionally bizarre performance in “Alice,” to upcoming roles for Emma Watson as Belle in “Beauty And The Beast” and Emma Stone as luscious villainess Cruella De Ville in “Cruella,” Disney remakes have proven they’re more than just froth.
So, will Smith be the little elephant who learns how to fly with the help of a mouse? Will Hanks be the evil villain? Only time will tell…
