Disney’s new hot dog is served inside a fried pickle with a side of peanut butter

After being shuttered for more than a year, Disneyland is finally reopening on April 30 and the internet has been abuzz with the news. Meanwhile, during the closure, Disneyland has found creative ways to give fans a taste of the “Happiest Place on Earth” and this time, they’ve truly outdone themselves with a new Disney dish that really has people talking: a pickle corn dog.

Yep — the Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs cart in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District is serving a Panko Crusted Pickle Dog, which is a hot dog wrapped in a pickle and crusted with panko crumbs, deep-fried and served with a side of — wait for it — peanut butter.

When Disney first announced the dog as part of a food news drop about new menu items headed to Disneyland and Walt Disney World, emotions ranged from shock to disgust to concern.

So seemingly unbelievable was this $13 concoction that even fact-checking site Snopes weighed in on the social media frenzy, confirming the existence of a creation that some corners of the internet assumed was a joke.

Then, brave souls began venturing to Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District to try it for themselves.

Maxwell Glick, aka @mrcheezypop, documented his experience on YouTube. Glick dissects the dog like a Michelin Guide inspector, noting that some of the components bring balance to the dish — sweetness from the panko-crusted exterior, salt from the hot dog, and sour from the pickle. But then he gets to the peanut butter, which really throws him.

“The peanut butter, I just don’t get. I don’t understand it,” he said.

“I don’t know that I would actually even ever eat this again, in my life,” Glick said. “It’s just a lot, man. It’s an adventure, though.”

On the other hand, some, like Nerdist managing editor Amy Ratcliffe, were ready to be first in line for the dog.

Disneyland just might be the hottest ticket in town when it reopens at the end of the month. A theme park reservation and valid ticket will be required to visit Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park, and admission to the theme parks is currently restricted to California residents. But if you just want to sample the culinary masterpiece (or not — you be the judge) that is a pickle corn dog, the Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs cart is accessible to the public at Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District. Just be sure to confirm hours of operation and check current safety guidelines before visiting.

This isn’t the first time Disney has served up a seriously polarizing dish. Recently, we tried an over-the-top donut grilled cheese from Everglazed Donuts & Cold Brew at Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs that had people talking. Read our review!
