Free Disney Week Includes Classic And New Favorite Movies
Whether you prefer live-action or animated films, there’s a little of something for everyone. Some of the titles on offer include “Pinocchio,” “Ratatouille,” “Cars,” “Underdog,” “The Parent Trap,” “Freaky Friday” and “Muppet Treasure Island.”
No more having to run out and try to find an old VCR copy of your classic favorites to watch this weekend! (Although that is kind of fun to go out there and find some hidden treasure, right?)
New Disney Movie Streaming Subscription Service In Works
The free preview week of Disney Family Movies comes amidst news about its forthcoming internet-video subscription service, set to debut in 2019. The service will include 7,000–8,000 episodes from the Disney-ABC TV library, as well as 3–4 original series and 3–4 original movies, including an original series based on the “High School Musical” franchise.
There will also be a series based on “Monsters, Inc.,” as well as an original program based on Marvel Comics. With the launch of the new platform, Disney movies will disappear from Netflix.
Disney Brings Marvel Superheroes Under Its Roof
In addition, Disney has also acquired 21st Century Fox. This is great news for Marvel superhero fans! A number of classic characters will now be part of Disney’s lineup.
“The agreement also provides Disney with the opportunity to reunite the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool with the Marvel family under one roof and create richer, more complex worlds of inter-related characters and stories that audiences have shown they love,” Disney said. “The addition of ‘Avatar’ to its family of films also promises expanded opportunities for consumers to watch and experience storytelling within these extraordinary fantasy worlds.”
The “Avatar” movie acquisition also makes sense for Disney. In 2017, Disney’s Animal Kingdom debuted Pandora—The World of Avatar in its theme park. This new theme park area features two new attractions and an entire immersive experience into the setting of the “Avatar” movie universe.
How Much Will The Disney Streaming Service Cost?
As for the price, according to Disney CEO Bob Iger, the new streaming service will be priced “substantially below” that of Netflix. Because Disney already owns a large stable of content, they don’t need to spend as much money on licensing deals or on original content.
What do you think? Will you spring for yet another subscription?
