Disney is throwing a new ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ Halloween party

Disney’s theme parks always go all-out during the Halloween season, and this year will be no exception. Disneyland has announced that it will throw an epic Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure Park to celebrate the spookiest time of the year.

As you might recall, Oogie Boogie was the villainous burlap sack full of insects in the 1993 movie “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” and he will be a major presence in the park during Halloween.

Here’s what Oogie Boogie looks like, if you need a reminder:

This fall, on 20 select nights in September and October, Disney California Adventure Park will host a family-friendly Halloween party with an all-new “World of Color” light and water show called “Villainous!”, among many other spectacles.

The Oogie Boogie Bash replaces Mickey’s Halloween Party, which was held in previous years at neighboring Disneyland.

For the new event, visitors — both children and adults alike — are encouraged to show up in costume.

Tickets for the Oogie Boogie Bash range in price from $110 to $145 depending on the date. Some nights, like September 26 and 29 and October 31, are already sold out, so you’ll want to move fast if you’re thinking about attending.

On select dates, the tickets also allow admission to Disney California Adventure Park up to three or four hours before the Oogie Boogie Bash, giving you time to check out the park’s other Halloween festivities.

Other party events include Mickey’s Trick & Treat at the Disney Theater, Villains Grove along the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail, immersive treat trails and the Frightfully Fun Parade, a parade featuring the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow, Mickey Mouse, and many mischievous Disney villains.

Whether the new parade will be able to top this, we don’t know! But we’re open to it.

Disney promises spooky decorations at every turn for Halloween Time, which takes place from Sept. 6 to Oct. 31, like a swarm of black bats and a headless horseman along Buena Vista Street. Some of the park’s rides will also get Halloween makeovers. Car Land’s Radiator Springs will be transformed into “Radiator Screams” with the characters from the movie “Cars” dressed up in Halloween costumes. We can’t wait to see what Lightning McQueen’s coming as this year.

Or for a scarier thrill ride, Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark promises to be a rollercoaster ride in the dark with big drops.

And naturally, there will be plenty of new merch and the exciting food for which Disney is known. T-shirts, a themed set of Mickey Mouse ears and special drinks will be part of the fun during the Halloween season.

While the Oogie Boogie Bash sounds like it will be fun, some folks on Instagram seem wistful about the change to Disney’s Halloween festivities. Mickey’s Halloween Party was dear to their hearts!
