Disney’s New Water Spectacular ‘Rivers Of Light’ Has Arrived And It’s Magical

Disney Parks

The Disney parks and resorts are not only known for their rides, but for their magical nighttime attractions as well. Fan favorites have included the “Main Street Electrical Parade,” “SpectroMagic” and “World Of Color.” Now, Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Orlando is finally getting its own nighttime spectacular. “Rivers of Light” will make its official debut this Friday, Feb. 17.

The after-dark show combines live performance, floating set pieces, a soaring musical score, fountains, fire and more. It will include a celebration of animals and nature, all unfolding over the Discovery River.

According to the Disney Parks Blog, it will convey “the uplifting spirit of an ancient and timeless lantern ceremony and [be] filled with symbolism, storytelling and plenty of heart.” It may sound similar to California Adventure’s current water show, “World of Color,” but there’s one thing that sets “Rivers of Light” apart.

In addition to beautiful projections onto water coming from jets, this particular water spectacular will also feature boats and floats that will include light-up animals and even more fountains that shoot water into the air as well.

If this sounds like a dream to you, but you can’t get yourself to Florida to see one of these performances in person, you can head to the Disney theme park blog Laughing Place, where you can watch a YouTube video of the first public showing of “Rivers of Light” from start to finish.

It seems pretty amazing in the video, so I can only imagine how colorful and magical the performance is in real life.

The show officially opens Friday, but sneak peeks have begun this week. The show was originally set to debut in April of 2016, but was delayed until this year.

Thankfully, it’s finally here, and from the sound of it, it definitely isn’t going to disappoint. Combine the illuminated magic of the electrical parade and the visual imagery of World of Color, and you can count us in!
