Drew Barrymore founded a successful beauty brand called Flower Beauty, but that doesn’t mean she’s covered in makeup all of the time. The actress, mom and business owner knows the joys a day free of makeup can bring, and she’s not afraid to share that with her fans.
On Aug. 12 Barrymore posted a selfie sans makeup, and she couldn’t have looked better. She appeared content and positively radiant.
“Happy and taking the advice of the wise ones. Somehow things are being put into practice,” she captioned the photo.
Barrymore’s gorgeous selfie came right after she posted a quote that read, “She is at a place in her life where peace is her priority and negativity cannot exist.” Ooooh, we love that one!
Peace and self-love could definitely be the kind of sage advice she mentioned in her makeup-free photo. Clearly, she’s comfortable in her own skin.
Barrymore’s makeup-free selfie was followed by another Instagram post with a section of reading material underlined: “Most people in life are just looking for a safe place to be themselves.”
This isn’t the first time Barrymore has shared a makeup-free selfie. She’s even gone so far as to show what her “un-groomed” self looks like, sharing a photo of eyebrows that needed to be tweezed and gray roots in her hair:
Alongside the photo she wrote, “How did I let it get this bad?” But, hey, women everywhere could totally relate to that “whoops” moment. And while a pampering session to tweeze and touch up your roots is nice from time to time, Barrymore is very much a fan of embracing your true self.
So are her friends: In an Instagram post of them wearing nothing but sunscreen on their faces, Barrymore and her best friend/”Charlie’s Angels” co-star Cameron Diaz proved that sometimes that post-workout glow is all you need to accompany your SPF:
When explaining her reasoning behind posting the photo to People magazine, Barrymore said:
“We’d just come from a workout. We feel good. We’re not wearing any makeup, and we’re just girls being ourselves. And sometimes all makeup and beauty fun aside, it’s just about the raw, honest, post workout look, you know? Just be you.”
She also told People how wearing makeup is very much a choice for her..
“Makeup free selfies are empowering because that’s what you really look like — and I have no interest in sort of pretending I look something else than what I am,” she told the ‘5 Questions’ video series. “I love wearing makeup, but I also love not wearing makeup.”
She’s just living her life however she sees fit, and it doesn’t get better than that. You go, Barrymore!
