Drunk Man Prepared His Own Waffle House Meal While The Staff Was Asleep

Facebook | Alex Bowen

There’s nothing like a carb-loaded meal after a night of drinking, and that’s precisely what a man named Alex Bowen was expecting to receive when he rolled in to a Waffle House in South Carolina around 3 a.m. Instead, what he found was a sleeping employee and no service— so, he decided to take matters into his own hands. He prepared himself a meal, all without waking the staff.

It wasn’t just any meal, either. He prepared the restaurant’s Texas Cheesesteak Melt, which is a sandwich made up of cheese, steak and onions. He didn’t forget the side of hash browns, either. Good man, Bowen!

Of course, Bowen managed to snap a few photos while cooking and posted them to Facebook, where they garnered quite a bit of attention. He captioned the post, “Couldn’t sleep so I went to waffle house [sic]…guess what…everyone on shift was asleep.”

He recounted the night’s events to ABC News, saying he waited for about 10 minutes to see if anyone would show up to take his order before he took it upon himself to cook the meal.

“It was around 3 a.m. I was pretty inebriated,” he told ABC News.

When he went back to the kitchen, that’s when he found the only employee — fast asleep.

“I looked at her for a few seconds, and I thought about waking her up,” he told “Inside Edition.” “But then I said ‘you know, this employee is probably tired. I got you, fam. I’ll take care of you.'”

That’s exactly what he did. Apparently, the employee slept through him cooking, eating and cleaning and no one else came inside the restaurant. He didn’t pay for the sandwich before leaving, but he told “Inside Edition” he came back later that day to pay for his handmade meal.

Waffle House heard about the incident once Bowen’s photos went viral on Facebook and responded in a statement.

“For safety reasons, our customers should never have to go behind the counter. Rather, they should get a quality experience delivered by friendly associates,” the statement read. “We are reviewing this incident and will take appropriate disciplinary action. In a related note, obviously Alex has some cooking skills, and we’d like to talk to him about a job since we may have something for him.”

Sounds like Bowen’s got a job waiting for him at Waffle House if he ever wants it. Or he can just continue cooking up some cheesesteaks for himself at home — and you can, too, thanks to tutorials on YouTube. This copycat recipe looks amazing:

Could you blame Bowen for cooking this up? It looks delicious. Anyone craving a Waffle House meal right about now?
