Ellen DeGeneres’ $45 Million Home Is For Sale [Pictures]

This house is stunning.

Ellen DeGeneres, everyone’s favorite daytime talk show host who’s also known as that forgetful fish Dory, is selling her house. And it’s an unbelievably gorgeous house. In Santa Barbara, California. And Ellen TOUCHED THE STUFF IN IT.

Ellen and her wife, Portia de Rossi, are hoping to sell the coastal California estate for a cool $45 million, according to Sotheby’s. If they can sell for that price, it will be a huge win—the couple initially bought the property back in 2012 for a reported $26.5 million.

The house is, of course, stunning. Not only is it 10,000 square feet, the house (or “The Villa” as it’s known) sits on almost 17 acres of land. With views of the Pacific Ocean and the mountains. Okay, enough.

Ellen DeGeneres, aside from being a comedian and TV presence, has developed quite the reputation as a real estate mogul. She has bought, renovated and sold a number of houses in Southern California over the last 25 years.

The property features a main house (with six bedrooms, nine (NINE!?) fireplaces and a massive living room) as well as a swimming pool, tennis court, fountains and guest house that DeGeneres added to the land.

“The house is always surprising. It reveals itself to you in new ways every day,” DeGeneres told Sotheby’s in an interview. “It’s not overly manicured or tidy. It’s not overly precious or perfect. And it’s a home that manages to be both spacious and cozy at once.”

DeGeneres especially loves the gardens and olive trees that surround the exterior of the house—not to mention the incredible views.

“The house truly feels like it was built out of the landscape, rather than plopped on a plot,” she told Sotheby’s. “It feels ancient, like it’s been there forever. Like that hill was never without the house. This is a home that honors nature, and I love that.”

Even if you can’t afford to buy this masterpiece, you can always pick up Ellen’s book, “Home,” which tells the story of redesigning The Villa, as well as a number of other projects.

“If you think of your home as a canvas—regardless of its style of architecture—you can put anything on it,” she told Sotheby’s. “I tend to keep painting the painting until it’s so done, there’s nothing left to do. That’s when I sell the canvas and buy a new one.”
