Elsa Pataky Opens Up About Being Married To Chris Hemsworth

Spanish actress Elsa Pataky and Hollywood heavyweight Chris Hemsworth seem like a total power couple. The two wed in 2010 and share three children together — daughter India Rose, 5, and twin sons Tristan and Sasha, 4 — whom they raise in Australia.

Although the couple might seem like they have it all, Pataky opened up recently about how they’ve navigated the difficulties that come with having a relationship in the limelight, as well as those everyday struggles that all couples face. “Every marriage has ups and downs – it’s constant work to be in a successful marriage and stay together forever,” she admitted to Vogue Australia.

“In the beginning it was beautiful – when I met him he wasn’t known at all and I grew with him and experienced all his successes and changes, and then he became just so huge and I’ve been sharing that, too,” she explained. “Going through every moment and being there with him with every success was actually a good thing — we grew together. It’s difficult when you go from being an unknown person to a very known person and all the changes that come with that.”

Pataky elaborated that her husband’s sudden fame, coupled with the fact that they got married and became parents so soon after meeting, also proved challenging.

“It puts a lot of pressure on a marriage, but we came out good because there is a lot of love between us and we are very strong personalities but love each other so much. We make it work,” she said, noting that she’s not sure “how we survived as a couple.”

For his part, Hemsworth credited his wife with supporting him and ultimately being the reason he was able to dedicate so much focus to his burgeoning career. Pataky was already an accomplished actress in Spain when they met and she put her career on hold temporarily to raise their children.

“In terms of work, she’s certainly given up more than I have,” the “Thor” actor told GQ Australia in October 2017. “She’d like me to step back and be at home with the kids more, and of course, I want that, too.”

However, like most modern families, work/life balance is something they need to negotiate. “I feel like I’m at this crucial point in my career—I’ve just got to set up for longevity or I’ll slip off,” Hemworth admitted.

The couple gives a peak into their family life through Instagram. Check out this adorable shot on Pataky’s account of Hemsworth reuniting with kids after having been away:
