Seeing Elton John in concert is a memorable experience, and it’s one you should rush to enjoy yourself, as the 72-year-old performer is reportedly wrapping up his touring life this year.

Before he’s done, though, he’s providing his fans with some amazing moments they’ll likely remember forever. At his recent show in Hove, United Kingdom, the musical icon treated fans to a once-in-a-lifetime experience when Taron Egerton — the actor who plays John in the new biopic, “Rocketman” — came onstage to sing a duet.

The pair performed “Your Song” for fans, proving once again how perfectly Egerton was cast in the role.

Later on, Egerton, age 29, posted a sweet photo to his Instagram account that showed him planting a kiss on John’s cheek while onstage.

After listening to the duet above, you won’t be surprised to learn that Egerton did all of his own singing in “Rocketman.” In fact, he truly embraced his role as John, also changing his hairstyle to reflect the star’s early fashion, wearing big glasses and earrings and donning prosthetic teeth.

‘I Haven’t Led A PG-13 Life’

“Rocketman” hit theaters on May 31 and is a no-holds-barred account of John’s life, a life that included addictions to alcohol, cocaine, sex and shopping. John recently wrote in the Guardian that filmmakers wanted to sanitize the story of his life, but that he was adamant that it accurately reflect both his good times and his bad ones.

“Some studios wanted to tone down the sex and drugs so the film would get a PG-13 rating,” John wrote. “But I just haven’t led a PG-13 rated life.”

He continued, “I didn’t want a film packed with drugs and sex, but equally, everyone knows I had quite a lot of both during the ’70s and ’80s, so there didn’t seem to be much point in making a movie that implied that after every gig, I’d quietly gone back to my hotel room with only a glass of warm milk and the Gideon’s Bible for company.”

John has also spoken out against Russia, which censored scenes from the movie that showed men kissing and making love. Five minutes of “Rocketman” were reportedly cut from the film for Russian audiences. John and filmmakers released a statement on May 31 saying:

“We reject in the strongest possible terms the decision to pander to local laws and censor Rocketman for the Russian market, a move we were unaware of until today.

“That the local distributor has edited out certain scenes, denying the audience the opportunity to see the film as it was intended is a sad reflection of the divided world we still live in and how it can still be so cruelly unaccepting of the love between two people.

“We believe in building bridges and open dialogue, and will continue to push for the breaking down of barriers until all people are heard equally across the world.”

Egerton also posted about the censorship on Instagram, saying he was “crestfallen”:

More Duets

“Your Song” is not the first duet John and Egerton have performed together. They performed “Rocket Man” at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The pair also sang “Tiny Dancer” at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Award Viewing Party in February and, once again, they killed it:

Not content to watch John perform on YouTube? His Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour will end in 2020, so there’s still quite a bit of time to catch him live in concert.
