Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda and James Corden performed a must-watch 22 musicals in 12 minutes
It’s no secret that James Corden loves musicals. The “Late Late Show” host is well known for his Carpool Karaoke segments, but he has a deep affection for Broadway as well. On his show, Corden has been challenged to an epic Broadway riff-off with Neil Patrick Harris, and he turned one amazing Carpool Karaoke into a Broadway singalong with “Hamilton” star and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and other luminaries of the stage.
Corden is even such a fan that he has hosted the Tony Awards three times.
Now, Corden has jammed 22 musicals into a 12-minute segment of his show — with help from Miranda and his fellow “Mary Poppins Returns” star Emily Blunt — and the results are a must-see mashup.
The trio tackles the new musical, of course, but they also breeze through “Chicago,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Evita,” “Hairspray,” “Dreamgirls,” “Fame” and, well, 15 other beloved musicals.
There are, of course, plenty of hilarious moments. All three of them clearly get a kick out of leaping into the air when they sing “Fame,” and let’s just say Miranda plays an unexpected role when they get to “Moulin Rouge.”
And not to spoil it for you, but there’s even a cameo in there. Just wait for the moment when they get to “The Muppet Movie.” And the finale! Well, you just have to see it for yourself.
If you’re at work, get out the headphones and make sure you don’t have a meeting in the next 12 minutes, because you’re going to want to catch all of this.
This isn’t the first time Corden has tackled a speedy mashup on his show. When a prolific actor comes on the show, he likes to zip through all of their films in a short time. Corden and Julia Roberts packed all of her movies into just under 10 minutes!
The next time a musical comes out on the big screen, we expect to see Corden hamming it up on his own stage once again — and we’ll be looking forward to laughing through it.
