First look inside Disney World’s new ‘Toy Story’ restaurant, where diners ‘shrink’ to toy size

It’s playtime at the newest spot to eat at Walt Disney World. Roundup Rodeo BBQ opens March 23 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Toy Story Land, where guests enter Andy’s backyard and “shrink” to the size of toys. The first “Toy Story”-themed table-service restaurant in the world, Roundup Rodeo BBQ serves up a family-style menu of whimsical takes on barbecue classics. Here’s a first look inside the new restaurant.

Saddle Up — There’s a New Rodeo in Town

Andy’s latest creation, Roundup Rodeo BBQ is set in a rodeo arena he’s built out of cardboard, game pieces, stickers, “Toy Story” characters and more. The restaurant’s cardboard exterior is decorated with Andy’s drawings, stickers and flags stuck to the facade with colorful silly putty. Inside, the walls are covered in Andy’s artwork and there are details and classic toy pieces everywhere — benches made from plastic haystacks (you remember the ones) and dominos, a handwritten welcome sign attached with push pins, and hand-drawn and cut flats taped to the ceiling with masking tape.

The walls of the dining area are covered floor to ceiling in game and toy boxes, stickers, Andy’s drawings, and giant physical toy pieces like blocks, trains and plastic monkeys that help make guests feel toy-sized. In addition to lots of colorful tables and chairs, Andy has constructed seating out of popsicle sticks, scrabble pieces and Monopoly cards.

“Toy Story” characters are on display — both as images and figures — mid-rodeo too. Jessie rides on the back of a Trixie pull toy, and Woody lassoes Zurg while Bo Peep stands rodeo-ready with a lasso and her sheep.

On the Menu

Meals are served family style, with all-you-care-to-enjoy lunch and dinner both priced at $45 per adult and $25 per child ages 3 to 9.

The meal starts with a basket of The Prospector’s Homemade Cheddar Biscuits with Sweet Pepper Jelly, an early favorite among tasters at the media preview we attended. Next up it’s three salads — the Rootin’ Tootin’ Tomato Salad, Rex’s Romaine and Kale Salad and Wheezy’s Watermelon Salad.

The main event is a platter of house-smoked meats — Evil Dr. Smoked Ribs, Buttercup’s Beef Brisket, There’s a Sausage in my Boot fire-grilled pork sausage and finally Rip-Roarin’ Rib Chop.

Vegetarians and vegans can opt for a plant-based platter of Combat Cauliflower, Scrumptious Bratwurst and Rip-Roarin’ Rib Chop, a delicious barbecue-seasoned and glazed Impossible chop served on a stick. Cedar plank Saloon Salmon is also available upon request at no additional charge for those who prefer fish.

Rounding out the meal, parties can choose four from a choice of eight sides, like Force Field Fried Pickles, Cowpoke Corn on the Cob, Slinky Doooooooooog Mac & Cheese and Buckin’Baked Beans.

Dessert is a choice of one of four mini pies in a jar, or a Forky cupcake for kiddos.

The only upcharges are for alcoholic and specialty non-alcoholic drinks, like the Snake Eye Margarita ($14.50) for adults and Partysaurus Tex ($6.50) for kids. Beer, wine and hard cider are also available.

Rootin’ Tootin’ Entertainment

While this isn’t a character meal, and there’s no “show,” there’s plenty to keep even the littlest diners entertained. The space is positively packed with clever details and countless Easter eggs. Periodically, Andy and other characters can be heard through the sound system. As Andy approaches, servers will quickly remind guests to freeze (everyone’s a toy, after all). We won’t spoil all the surprises, but you’ll hear plenty of familiar-sounding voices throughout your meal, with moments enhanced with lights, sounds and music.
