This website helps you easily find what to watch on Netflix

With the proliferation of streaming services like Netflix, the question of, “What should we watch tonight?” has become a lot more complicated.

The pure volume of content available to you at the click of a single button can make choosing the next show or movie to watch overwhelming. And it doesn’t help that the interfaces of services like Netflix and Amazon Prime aren’t exactly user friendly when it comes to finding something new.

If you get frustrated by this, you might want to check out Flixable, a new website that helps you more easily browse Netflix. Flixable’s creator, Ville Salminen, told Mashable he was inspired to create the website because of the frustration users seemed to have with finding something to watch on Netflix.

The free service allows users to narrow down TV shows and movies currently on Netflix using a number of criteria, including genre, IMDB rating and release year. Users can also then filter their search by when the title was added to Netflix, MPAA rating, release year or title.

Does It Work?

I tried it out, and it’s actually pretty helpful! For example, I put in that I wanted a TV comedy, with an IMDB rating of 7 or higher that came out between 2013 and 2018. I chose to sort my results by rating, so I could see the most highly rated shows first. Flixable gave me 168 results, which is still a lot to wade through, but at least now I have a starting point, and I’m choosing from a much more targeted list based on criteria I care about.

If you want to take a cue from your fellow viewers, the site also has a section that shows the most popular picks for the day, week and month. You can also check out which shows and movies are slated to leave Netflix soon, so that you can catch them before they’re gone. There’s also a section that groups all the Netflix original content together.

“With Flixable, I had one aim,” Salminen told Mashable. “To build a site that would make it easier for Netflix subscribers to choose what to watch on a movie night.” He said he’s in talks with Hulu to create a similar site for its service.

Flixable is far from the only site of its kind. One such alternative is InstantWatcher, which offers you the ability to sort by ratings from Rotten Tomatoes, New York Times ratings, award winners and award nominees, making it perfect for those to whom critical acclaim is important. As a bonus, InstantWatcher can be used for both Netflix and Amazon Prime.
