Spa or pick-up truck? The latest Ford F1-50 model is a little bit of both, thanks to fully reclining seats that offer an adjustable massage setting.

New in 2021 F-150 models are the “Max Recline Seats” that fold flat to nearly 180 degrees, much like first-class seats on an airplane. The seats are designed with comfort in mind: When the seat leans back, the bottom is raised for lower back support, while the upper seatback can be rotated forward to provide neck comfort.

This latest reclining seat feature builds on other comfort amenities in Ford trucks. Five years ago, Ford began adding massage seats to some of its F-150 models. (By the way, if you’re shopping for a new F-150 or customizing a model, and you’re interested in the massage function, the listing probably won’t say “massaging seats.” Instead, look for the feature called “multicontour seats with active motion.”) The active motion feature delivers lumbar support and a soothing seat massage to reduce lower back and leg fatigue, according to Ford.

The automaker’s latest Max Recline Seats have been granted patents and will be offered on King Ranch, Platinum and Limited F-150 trucks starting in 2021 model year.

The idea for the fully reclining seats came about because Ford says its customers work hard and play hard, and want to rest in their trucks while they’re on break at a construction job or after arriving at a campsite late at night when it’s too dark to set up tents.

“Our F-150 customers are constantly on the road or at a jobsite and being able to nab a few minutes of rest really is a boon to daily productivity,” said Ben Kulhawik, seat design and release engineer, in a press statement.

The base model price of a 2021 Ford F-150 is $28,940, but there are several upgraded models ranging in price points all the way up to the $70,825 Limited model. Customizations can add hundreds of dollars to the final costs, too.

Of course, if you’re not in the market for a new truck, you can add a little bit of luxury to your existing vehicle. This vibrating heated seat cover (available on Amazon for $55.99) will give you a massage on the go.

Now, you’ll need to explain to your neighbors why you’re spending so much time sitting in your parked vehicle on the driveway.
