If you love spending the day wandering around a museum, mark your calendars for Saturday, Sept. 22! On that day, over 1,000 museums around the country are offering free admission.
In celebration of the Smithsonian’s annual Museum Day, all 50 states and Washington, D.C., will offer free admission are some of their top museums. However, you’ll still need tickets for entry — and you should make sure you get one now before they’re all snapped up!
To acquire tickets, just visit Smithsonian Magazine’s website. Once there, if you know the museum you’d like to visit, type the name in the search box. If you do not know where you’d like to go, search by your state or zip code to find participating museums near you. Just fill out the form with your name and email address and the ticket will be emailed to you!
You are allowed one ticket per email address, which entitles you to free general admission on Saturday, Sept. 22 for two people. Not all museums are participating, but with over 1,000 options, there’s a chance that one you want to check out is on the list.
You may want to consider Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History in New Haven, Connecticut, where you can see dinosaur skeletons or the kid-friendly South Florida Science Center and Aquarium in West Palm Beach, Florida. Or what about the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock, Texas, or the California Surf Museum in Oceanside, California? There are so many options!
This year’s Museum Day is themed around “Women Making History,” honoring female artists, women in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, women who work in male-dominated fields and more.
