French’s is now making mustard-flavored ice cream, complete with a pretzel cookie

Move over, mint chocolate chip and rocky road. Wacky ice cream flavors are here, and they just may convince you to eschew the classics in favor of something totally different. First, there was pickle ice cream, and now French’s and Coolhaus Ice Cream are introducing mustard ice cream.

“As lovers of sweet-meets-savory, pure ingredients and unique creations, we are incredibly excited to be collaborating with French’s Mustard in creating this one-of-a-kind product,” Natasha Case, Coolhaus founder and CEO, said in a statement. “It’s been so fun to explore this classic condiment in a whole new way and create an unforgettable thoughtfully-crafted ice cream flavor with an all-American taste.”

Check out the promo video for the ice cream, posted to French’s Instagram account:

Whoa! The video shows that the ice cream is bright yellow in color, as would be expected. It’s also served with a pretzel cookie, which actually makes a lot of sense!

In honor of National Mustard Day on Saturday, August 3, the unconventional ice cream flavor will be available in New York City and Los Angeles for a limited time beginning on August 1. It will be available at the Coolhaus location in Culver City, California from August 2-4 and August 9-11.

Coolhaus is a women-owned business that’s well-known for its creative ice cream sandwiches and super-premium, unusual flavors of ice cream — making it a perfect partner for French’s. It’s a proponent of food with an architectural twist, and its packaged ice cream flavors are available nationally.

In New York City, those willing to give mustard ice cream a try can nab it from a roaming French’s Mustard Ice Cream truck on August 1 and 2. The truck will then travel to the Hamptons on August 3. Get the complete details about when and where you can try it for yourself here.

“And while the limited-run flavor might sound crazy, it doesn’t just taste good, it tastes damn good,” declares the webpage at McCormick, French’s parent company.

Some staffers at People got the opportunity to taste-test the ice cream before its big debut, and they thought it wasn’t half-bad!

“It weirdly kind of works, in its own special way,” read their review. “One scoop is definitely fun and doable, but two scoops might be pushing it a bit.”

We suppose this is no weirder than ketchup and mayo ice cream — hey, that sounds like a collaboration possibility. Is this something you would try?
