A ‘Friends’ Musical Is Coming This Fall

Just as their theme song promised, it turns out the characters from “Friends” really will always be there for you!

Just when you thought watching late-night reruns and binge-watching all 10 seasons on Netflix was as good as you were going to get, this news broke. “Friends” is being recreated as an off-Broadway musical, and will be making its New York debut this fall. So, go on and head to your favorite coffee shop to celebrate!

The ’90s have had a major resurgence as of late, so it’s no surprise that a remake of the greatest 1990s sitcom to ever hit the airwaves is being rebooted in an all-new way in 2017.

“Friends! The Musical” is said to be a musical parody that condenses all 10 seasons of the show into a two-hour production. It’s brought to you by Bob and Tobly McSmith, who have also created “Full House! The Musical!,” “90210! The Musical!” and more.

The first song that comes to mind when you think of this TV show is, of course, the “I’ll Be There For You” theme song, so expect to hear a version of that tune in the musical. There will also be songs titled “The Only Coffee Shop in New York City,” “Hey Ugly Naked Guy Who Lives Across the Street!,” among others, according to US Weekly.

A statement on the “Friends! The Musical!” website reads, “Oh and there will be a smelly cat, there will be Janice, and there will be Fat Monica.” So clearly, there’s a lot to look forward to here!

The creators of the show have reportedly not endorsed the musical, but that doesn’t mean the cast and crew won’t potentially have something to do with bringing the musical to life.

“We want all the alumni of Friends to come to the show and possibly be in it for a night or two—our first call is to the agent of Marcel the Monkey,” according to the musical’s website.
