Of the dozens of cereals on the market, Froot Loops always tops my list. It’s not just the fruity flavor, but the nostalgia and memories of childhood that come right along with it.
As an adult, however, I’m no longer up for starting my day with a bowl of sugary cereal. So, when I see Froot Loops-flavored foods, like a milkshake at Burger King or ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s, I am all for it. Of course that included the Froot Loop donuts that Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s launched last September.
While I was fortunate enough to try them, not everyone was so lucky. The donuts sold out within weeks of the launch. There is some good news though: If you didn’t get to try them, or did and want more, they are making a comeback.
The donuts will appear on Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s menus on Feb. 25, again for a limited time. You’ll get five mini doughnuts in a pack for $1.99. Of course, the donuts are shaped and colored just like Froot Loops — red, blue, green, purple and yellow. And yes, they taste just like the beloved cereal. Each one has a different flavor as well, so the color is not just for show.
Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s do not say how long the mini donuts will be around this time, but the initial launch was supposed to last through March. There is also no word on if there is a possibility they will sell out again, so if you want to try them, it’s best to do it soon.
If they do disappear again, Sweetest Menu has a recipe for how to make donuts decorated with Froot Loops. While you are most likely not going to get the full Froot Loops flavor with the recipe, it’s worth trying if you’re bummed about not getting the real thing.
Will you be going to your local Carl’s Jr. or Hardee’s to try these Froot Loops mini donuts before they’re gone again?
