A luxury treehouse resort is coming to Tennessee’s Great Smoky Mountains

There are already plenty of fun reasons to visit Tennessee’s Great Smoky Mountains. The synchronous fireflies that flash in sync, and put on a spectacular bioluminescence show each year in May or June. Then, come fall, the autumn colors in the national park are a draw for leaf-peepers. Plus, there are hikes, waterfalls and wildflowers galore in the park.

But, now, outdoors-loving travelers have yet another reason to visit the Smokies: A treehouse resort is being built in Gatlinburg so that you can enjoy a truly unique and tranquil getaway among the quiet majesty of this beloved destination. Treehouse builder extraordinaire Pete Nelson, the host of Animal Planet’s “Treehouse Masters,” is behind the new project. The under-construction resort will be called Treehouse Grove at Norton Creek and is set to open in spring 2020.

The Gatlinburg project is still under construction but here’s a glimpse of one of the magical treehouse lodges Nelson built in the Pacific Northwest at a similar resort called TreeHouse Point.

In all, there will be eight treehouses available to book at the Gatlinburg resort. The treehouses each feature unique layouts and will include resort-style amenities, according to the Treehouse Grove website.

The treehouses will be near a creek, and they’re being built to include lofts, decks and screened porches.

Nelson has built similar treehouse resorts throughout the country, including TreeHouse Point, which is outside of Seattle in Fall City, Washington. The resort is a sylvan oasis with a half-dozen uniquely designed treehouses that can be rented starting at about $325 per night.

In Texas Hill Country, treehouse-obsessed travelers can book one of four magical and luxe treehouses that are surprisingly spacious. These units at Treehouse Utopia cost about $475 per night.

Nelson and his family are also planning a rustic, yet luxurious treehouse spa and resort in Redmond, Washington. That spa will apparently offer massages, facials, manicures and pedicures, plus there will be an on-site pool and yoga studio.
