George and Amal Clooney welcome twins
George and Amal Clooney will now officially be called “mom and dad!” They welcomed twins Ella and Alexander Clooney Tuesday morning.
“This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives,” a rep told E! News. “Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine. George is sedated and should recover in a few days.”
The couple conceived via in vitro fertilization, according to In Touch, and announced their pregnancy in January. They are believed to have paid about $10,986 (£8,520) for a private suite in the Kensington Wing at London’s Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their birth of their twins. Women who stay there receive one-to-one midwife support and 24-hour care.
Amal took it easy throughout her pregnancy, scaling back on her workload as an international and human rights lawyer.
“We decided to be much more responsible, to avoid the danger. I will not go to South Sudan anymore and or the Congo [and] Amal will no longer go to Iraq and she will avoid places where she knows she is not welcome,” George said in an interview with Paris Match before the twins’ arrival. “Before, I did not care. I would even say that there was a pretty exciting side to going where no reporter had ever been.””
Now that the twins have arrived, Amal will be taking maternity leave.
“She plans to be back at work around six months after giving birth, but her schedule will be greatly different than before,” a source told E! News before the birth. “A lot of time spent working at home.” The same source says Amal has no plans to leave her career.
The twins have a beautiful mansion in England to call home when they leave the hospital. Before the birth of their children, George and Amal spent some time preparing their renovated home in the countryside outside London. The home is said to include tennis courts, a home cinema and a 60-foot swimming pool. The littlest Clooneys also have cousins to keep them entertained. George has a niece and a nephew, while Amal has a lookalike niece and a nephew. One things for sure: There’s no way these lucky babies will be bored!
Once the twins reach school age, George says they will decide on a main residence. “We have the chance to live between three countries: Italy, America and England,” he said. “But as soon as the children go to school, it will be necessary to choose where to settle.”
Before the babies’ birth, Julia Roberts, a close friend to the couple who also has twins, predicts that the Clooneys will be great parents.
“It’s gonna be so fun—they are a great couple, and they don’t need advice from me or anybody else,” she told Ellen DeGeneres. “Also, nobody’s there with you at 3:00 in the morning when you’re just going, ‘What am I doing?’ ‘Where did they come from, and when are they going?’”
Congratulations, George and Amal! We are eagerly awaiting photos of your new bundles of joy!
